Escrevo com a esperança de que algumas pessoas, que parecem andar com "palas nos olhos", possam entender a realidade do rugby em Portugal. Poderíamos discutir política, debatendo as opções da Federação quanto aos Sevens e à forma como é investida a fatia orçamental destinada ao “Desenvolvimento”, mas isso terá que ficar para outra altura. Aqui pretendo apenas apresentar factos e, eventualmente, despontar reflexões. Comecemos pelo início. Para que uma modalidade cresça em quantidade e qualidade precisa de atletas e de adeptos (sem eles não há patrocinadores). Em 2016 eram 6480 os atletas de rugby federados,  em Portugal  (17º desporto “mais” praticado no país) - há mais columbófilos que jogadores de rugby . No nosso país, a oval gira em 20 concelhos. Desses 20, apenas 3 não têm estabelecimentos de ensino superior e a sua população residente oscila entre os 16226 de Montemor-o-Novo e os 504.718 de Lisboa.
